GRIN
Scotland / 2022 / 49m / English
In-Person: Wed 28 June / 20:15 BST
Online: 23 - 29 June
A digital fruition of performance, sound, visuals and choreography, subverting hyper-sexualised notions of African and Caribbean dance.
In Mele Broome’s mesmerising dance production, questions of empathy, friendship and solidarity are brought to the forefront by movement, light and sound. Led by Broomes’ ingenious choreography, dancers Divine Amy Tasinda and Kemono L. Riot transform from light embodied, into two figures engaged in dialogue with each other. GRIN (2022) is the filmic transformation of what began as a celebrated live performance, making its move to the screen due to restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Body and costume are accompanied by a pulsating sound score, and a masquerade of dance sculptures is formed, leaving you breathless.
