New Creative Director Announced

The team at Fringe of Colour are extremely excited to announce that Briana Pegado will be joining us as our new Creative Director, taking up the role from February 2021 and working on this year’s iteration of the Fringe of Colour Films online arts festival.

Briana is a creative producer with over 7 years experience in the arts and creative industries. In 2015 she was named one of Scotland’s Top 10 Social Innovators by Third Force News for her work founding the Edinburgh Student Arts Festival (ESAF), a social enterprise supporting emerging creative people that worked to increase public access to the arts. ESAF was awarded the Inspiring Youth Enterprise Award by Social Enterprise Scotland in 2016.

In 2017 Briana was nominated as a Social Enterprise Champion and was named one of Scotland’s 30 Under 30 Inspiring Young Women by YWCA Scotland - The Young Women’s Movement. In 2018, she became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Art.

She has worked for a number of national bodies including the National Theatre of Scotland, Custom Lane - Scotland’s Centre for Design & Making, and One Stone Advisors - Scotland’s first B Corporation and Sustainability Consultancy. In September 2019, she was appointed Executive Director of Creative Edinburgh and Co-Director of Creative Informatics. In 2020, she became chair of YWCA Scotland - the Young Women’s Movement.

She sits on the Royal Society of Edinburgh’s Post COVID19 Futures Commission on Public Debate and Participation Working Group, the City of Edinburgh Council’s Slavery and Colonialism Review Group, the National Partnership for Culture - a Scottish Government Working Group exploring recommendations for the Culture Sector’s Recovery from COVID19, and she is a lay member of the Governing Body (Council) of the University of York.

We are so excited to have Briana joining the team! She is a passionate and dedicated arts-lover with years of experience and a multitude of fantastic ideas for our wee festival. You will be able to reach her at briana@fringeofcolour.co.uk from February onwards.

“I am so thrilled to be joining the team at Fringe of Colour Films. To work alongside impressive queer BIPOC humans that have created a space for creatives to thrive and come together in community to address the inequalities members of our community face is so needed. I look forward to working with the team to further realise the vision of Founder Jess Brough and Editorial Director Paula Akpan to explore where Fringe of Colour can go. Our emerging future hinges on the work we do as cultural producers to make our world a more fair, more equitable, and more beautiful place.“

- Briana Pegado
